Jessa Turner, Instigator & Co-Conspirator of HomeGrown HideAways
Jessa has traversed 48 states and 8 countries in search of the ground beneath her feet. Her wings are slowly transforming into roots buried deep in her home state of Kentucky, where she graduated with a degree in Sustainability and Environmental Studies from Berea College. Her chosen mission is to figure out how to eat ALL the cookies and still fit through the door while perfecting a veggie burger recipe that even her carnivorous husband will eat.
HomeGrown HideAways is a farm, campground, and event facility in the Appalachian foothills of Berea, Ky. This hundred-acre forest retreat features unique lodging opportunities including treehouses, yurts, a tipi, tiny home, and campsites. The farm provides organically-grown fruit, vegetables, eggs, and non-timber forest products such as mushrooms, nuts, and botanicals. Guests can purchase HomeGrown ingredients from the Farm Stand or request farm-fresh meals from the in-house chef. There is no cell service or wifi, but visitors can enjoy hiking the 1.5-mile trail on the property, hunt geodes in the creek, take a mushroom inoculation workshop, explore the nearby reservoirs and trails. The idyllic setting is also the perfect venue for rustic weddings, retreats, reunions, and other small gatherings. 10% of the net proceeds from lodging is donated to selected organizations.
