BBVA Momentum: Creating Opportunities for Entrepreneurs

When BBVA Compass rolled out BBVA Momentum last year for the first time in the U.S., the bank’s Corporate Responsibility & Reputation team expected to draw mission-driven entrepreneurs — innovators embedded in communities where BBVA Compass makes a difference.

That’s just what happened, and we’re partnering with BBVA to spread the word and invite you to be a part of their expanding program in 2018! BBVA Compass is currently inviting entrepreneurs across its seven-state Sunbelt footprint to apply (Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, New Mexico and Texas).

BBVA Momentum is a training and accelerator program designed specifically to propel social entrepreneurs and their companies to the next level.

BBVA Momentum is a training and accelerator program designed specifically to propel social entrepreneurs and their companies to the next level. It has been operating since 2011 in other countries throughout the global footprint of Spain-based BBVA, the parent company of BBVA Compass. Its goal is simple: to help social entrepreneurs — those who are hoping to change the world through their work — scale up and make a positive impact on the lives of more people.

This global program offers its participants access to online and in-person training, strategic support through 1:1 mentorship, networking opportunities, visibility and potential access to financing. The in-person training, like last year, will be led by educators from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas, Austin, one of the nation’s most prestigious business schools. Consisting of three separate multi-day training sessions in Austin, the program covers down-in-the-trenches topics on financial planning, marketing, and how to pitch to investors, among other things.

To close out its first BBVA Momentum class, BBVA Compass convened a panel of judges in Austin to hear 10-minute pitches from its six BBVA Momentum finalists. Chad Houser of Dallas-based Cafe Momentum, a restaurant training platform for juvenile offenders, won the top prize of $50,000.

The program is only getting bigger and better.

As previously noted, the bank is expanding the program to seven states, and is encouraging entrepreneurs in those states to start applying today! The bank will select up to 35 entrepreneurs to participate in the intensive five-month training program.
