Mi Casa Resource Center works to advance the economic success of families with limited opportunities in the Denver community. In their 40 years of service, they have helped people start their careers, continue their educations and launch or grow their businesses through an integrated program strategy of business, career, youth and family development.
Mi Casa’s mission to promote the success of primarily Latino and working families extends to every member of the community. For example, they operate the only Women’s Business Center (WBC) in Colorado supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Their WBC provides comprehensive, bilingual business training, consulting and support services to small businesses, especially those owned by women and minorities. In 2017, the Women’s Business Center at Mi Casa Resource Center was presented with the national SBA Women’s Business Center for Excellence Award.
They also focus on the family through their Youth & Family Development programs, which provide high-quality academic and enrichment programming for youth after school, in the evening and during the summer. Mi Casa also provide many resources for adults, including English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, High School Equivalency test preparation, computer literacy classes and resource referrals.
Furthermore, the career programs at Mi Casa offer a practical pathway for workers with limited skills and education to launch careers with strong earning and advancement potential. They accomplish this through an array of career development services, including career coaching, career readiness workshops and sector-focused career training programs focused on customer service and the financial industry.
Mi Casa also implements their mission of advancing the economic success of families through social enterprise. This then allows the organization to focus on strategically achieving financial sustainability. To diversify and expand revenue sources, Mi Casa’s social enterprises focus on earned income strategies aligned with their mission of economic success.
Their first social enterprise, Mi Casa BackOffice Solutions, offers accounting and bookkeeping services for nonprofits and small businesses. It complements the work of Mi Casa Resource Center’s Business Development program. Additionally, many of the clients are business owners who have graduated from Mi Casa’s entrepreneurial training classes. Their second social enterprise, Mi Casa TalentSolutions, is a full-service staffing agency that strives to be the go-to employer throughout the Denver metro area. The venture fulfills the growing need for skilled and diverse professionals and builds on Mi Casa Resource Center’s strong partnerships with area employers. The Resource Center also provides access to trained and diverse talent through their Career Development program.
