New Year, New Beginnings

New Year, New Beginnings

What’s your 2017 New Year’s resolution? Much like millions of Americans this new year, Nashville’s The New Beginnings Center and TNB Fitness are on a mission to promote fitness, improve health and do good.

The New Beginnings Center (TNBC) offers programs designed to improve the health, strength and wellness of women regardless of their ability to pay. Provided at no cost to scholarship clients, TNBC incorporates physical assessment and screening processes with individualized coaching and wellness goals. Targeted to achieve measurable results, its holistic approach empowers clients to take personal responsibility for their own wellness – strengthening their body, mind and spirit.

TNB Fitness is The New Beginnings Center’s social enterprise, offering personalized training and nutrition coaching to the greater Nashville community. Part of the TNB Fitness membership fee supports The New Beginnings Center, allowing Nashvillians to support TNBC’s mission and expand access to health, wellness and fitness coaching. In addition, TNB Fitness and TNBC share a facility, including all of the community in efforts to acknowledge and address Nashville’s health crisis.

Affordable and individualized health coaching services are still out of reach to the majority of those who need help in Nashville. Obesity rates are climbing in low-income and minority populations. By offering individualized coaching to high risk, low-income Nashvillians, New Beginnings is helping to change this trend. It proactively addresses the obesity crisis that faces low-income women and delivers healthy, sustainable outcomes by utilizing strength training, physical fitness and nutritional education as platforms for changing behavior and building self esteem.

TNBC started in 2010 as a “what if.” What if there was a health and wellness program that produced real and lasting results for all women, regardless of their ability to pay or their background? What if lifestyle coaching included nutrition, exercise and the actual process of change itself? What if all women had access to the best coaching available?

This thought turned into reality in 2011, when TNBC received its 501c3 designation, and co-founder Tash Weddle graduated the first pilot group of four women in August of 2012. Their results were even better than she had anticipated. The women lost an average of 12% of their body weight in 12 weeks, but more importantly their attitude and outlook on life was changed forever.

In 2013, TNBC moved into a brand new, 6,000 square foot facility in Nashville’s Berry Hill neighborhood and has continued to grow ever since, serving over 400 women each year and continuing to grow that number by adding satellite locations and additional workshops.

As 2017 kicks off, The New Beginnings Center and TNB Fitness remind us to invest in our best selves – and invest in others – by supporting community-wide initiatives to create change. To learn more about TNBC, check out their SEA member profile and website.
